ACA 2015 Student Session

A friendly reminder that the DEADLINE for the ACA Call for Student Papers is on Monday, January 12, 2015. For details, please see the ACA 2015: Perspectives on the Archival Horizon website.

We are proud of the strong papers delivered by U of M Archival Studies MA students in the past. At ACA 2012: In Search of Archival Gold, our own Mary Horodyski journeyed to Whitehorse to present her paper, “The Mediums and Their Messages: Ghostly Archives and the Spirit Cards of Hannah Mary MacPherson, 1947-1966.” Mary based this paper on the unique, mysterious and oftentimes moving records of spiritualism held at the U of M Archives & Special Collections. It showcased the “Archival Gold” we have right here in Winnipeg and Mary’s talent for well-researched and creative presentations.

Erin Acland and Mary Grace Golfo were also successful with their applications and presented at the Student Sessions in 2013 (Winnipeg) and 2014 (Victoria). As well, we have seen our students contribute papers and organize panels for the regular sessions. Well done everyone! Keep up the good work.

Article by Nicole Courrier now available online!

One of our own students recently had an article published online at U of M Today. Written during Nicole’s time at the University of Manitoba Archives and Special Collections, “A tale and picture from the Prince of Wales’ Manitoba hunting trip”  looks at Manitoba’s connection to King Edward VIII and one of the many notable photographs by L.B. Foote. Nice work Nicole!
